Well I guess I have been on the journey to get this business going. I have to say its pretty tough when you're poor. lol. But it seriously is though.
You do a lot of hoping ....hoping that things work out-that the hard work pays off-that something will come out of all this chaos.
Ya never know.
What I am learning about myself is that My dream for film isn't a big a dream of mine like I originally thought. I have been chasing the film and video dream of so long...achieved some success.. I think me pursuing it has become a habit? I don't really know. I def enjoy a day that is on set or a day when I'm working on my own project. It would def be my top choice of industry to keep working in.
BUT...
I would love to have my photos in people's homes. I want people to love it the way I do. Maybe thats a pipe dream. Maybe not.
I have so much to do. I think it has been about ... maybe a year since I started to conceptualize this idea of a business.
"Mom, I think I really want to sell my photos for a living" But than after telling her she talked about how I should do weddings. NO!!! I hate that!!! I refuse to do that.
Well Maybe this was just a "this was what was on my mind" blog. All I know is I am bit torn on how to make this business succeed. My mother says cut my loses move back to Buffalo and just start there. If I am there I cant do film stuff really(not paid that is) and I'm stuck being a barista (if they will hire me) or like some crazy job I'll hate. Back to lifeguarding? Bartending? how about a new bank job. I think I would shot myself or someone if I ended up in a cubicle 8 hours a day.
While in NYC I do like being a barista. I think I am addicted to this coffee frenzy...or just the art of coffee. I find myself wanting to learn more about coffee, and wanting to become a better barista. I kinda don't wanna give up this barista thing. Also when film work doesn't come around Its a good skill to have to fall back on. lol.
I just wanna get to the point where I am ready for a art festival. I am gonna be super excited when that happens.
well I guess Im gonna keep truckin. lol.
Just so you know...there are like zero bank jobs in Western New York that aren't temporary positions, and HSBC just announced they're selling their mortgage company, so that's even more people out there looking for said hard to come by bank jobs.
ReplyDeleteBut, back to you. I think you need to do what feels right for you. Maybe you could do a photography series on Coffee, or see if some coffeehouse in NYC would be interested in showcasing some of your prints while waiting for the next filming gig...
and if you decide to come home, there are a few places you might be able to get into, like photojournalism at the Buffalo News or for one of the tv stations here.
And i'd love to buy a print of yours someday, so please keep at it. You can do anything you set your mind to Amber!!
Ya know the series on coffee is actually such a great idea!!! And I heard about hsbc...i didnt see that coming. a lot of places do exhibitions here, its just getting all my prints and supplies together is the hard part.
DeleteIf one works less, he/she gets the smaller part of the cake, if one works harder, he/she gets a bigger - one reaps what he/she sow. Dreams do come true, Amber. What do you know, you might own Gloria Jean's or Seattle's Best someday, or even Starbucks! :) Nothing is impossible under the sun if one strives harder than harder. I can see your willingness to learn more about coffee, girl. Just keep the faith, bring the unseen to the scene! Your Mother must be so proud of you.

I strongly agree with Jamie. Nowadays, most coffee drinkers would prefer to go to coffee shops rather than fix themselves a pot of coffee because coffee shops also serve food like cakes, pastries & sandwiches, which, in turn, creates a delectable sensation in their mouth when combined with coffee. Jamie and Darcy are both correct. Also, think of other ways to maintain the loyalty of your customers, like for example having a reading section on your café. Isn't it a rather good idea? I mean, most people go to coffee shops to hang out with their friends or relax a bit. You might as well add a reading section to complement the relaxing atmosphere. :)

DeleteYou definitely should just “keep on truckin’”! You’ll soon find your calling, whether it’s as a barista, or the owner of your own photography business! They say the hardest part about a business is starting it, but I’m sure that, with enough determination and drive, you’ll get their soon. Every business has to start somewhere, and if yours just happens to have to start at events photography, then I think you should try it out! Another way to get your business out there is to start advertising your services online. Soon enough, your business will grow to where you’ll need to handle many parts of it with software, like the finance and accounting part of your business, and even booking clients!

It is best that, whatever business you push through with, you have the burning passion for it to achieve success. I think it is good that you make a habit out of pursuing your passion so that you never lose your drive. I was so interested in reading your post because I myself am very passionate for film. I’d love to learn more about it in the future, and it is so ironic because I’m also very interested in starting a coffee shop business someday.
